DornerWorks and Xilinx Co-author MPSoC Hypervisor Paper
DornerWorks and Xilinx have teamed up to author a paper at the 2015 Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC), titled “MPSoC Hypervisor: The Safe & Secure Future of Avionics”. Growing out of the companies’ joint work on bringing the Xen hypervisor to the next generation Xilinx device, Steve VanderLeest, Chief Operating Officer at DornerWorks, and Dagan White, Product Marketing Manager for Aerospace & Defense at Xilinx, explore anticipated needs in avionics to provide increased performance and security while maintaining safety. New requirements for security are appearing due to the centralization of processing capabilities combined with passenger expectations for enhanced communications connectivity. Satisfying the new requirements will demand new hardware. The authors review the new Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ MultiProcessor System on Chip (MPSoC) as one promising avionics hardware solution. The MPSoC provides a high performance heterogeneous multicore processing system and programmable logic in a single device with enhanced safety and security features. Satisfying the new requirements will also demand new software. The authors review partitioning environments as a promising avionics software solution, with a focus on the Xen Hypervisor.
